Heartfelt and hilarious play, Our Mothers’ Daughters debuts at the Redbridge Drama Centre this March

The heartfelt and hilarious Our Mothers’ Daughters will play at the Redbridge Drama Centre in Woodbridge on Sun 2 Mar and Mon 3 Mar. In her debut play, actor and playwright Sarah Tara Ray (Blessings at Riverside Studios, Arachne R&D at the Arcola Theatre) introduces us to a loveable sisterhood of oddballs, as they navigate ‘’adulting’’ through their personal chaos. This production will be directed by Hanna Berrigan (La Musica at the The Gate, Public Property at Trafalgar Studios).

Putting women centre stage, Our Mothers’ Daughters explores both the harsh and the comical edges of the female experience.

The lives of a promising artist, insecure jester, and wannabe home-maker, are thrown into turmoil, as they navigate life in the face of an engagement, an impossible decision, and the simple reality that while you can choose your friends, you can’t choose your family.

Playwright Sarah Tara Ray says, ‘First and foremost, this play is a love letter to the women in my life…an exercise in writing women as I know them. I hope this shines a light on the immeasurable importance of female friendship and the bond between mother and daughter. It’s been a pleasure and a joy to see these characters brought to life by an excellent director and cast who have made them their own.’

The superb ensemble of women bring a candid sincerity to Ray’s play, including the writer herself Sarah Tara Ray as Billy the insecure jester, Abbey Grace Orchard (Gays Having Babies at The Kings Head Theatre, Unheard Voices at Hamton Court Palace) as a promising young artist, and Natasha Mula (Much Ado About Nothing at the East London Shakespeare Festival) as Kat the wannabe homemaker. Completing the cast is Jessica Radcliffe (Holby City BBC, A Thing Called Love BBC), Megan Rose Kennedy (Shut Up And Drive at The Lion and Unicorn, Blessing at Riverside Studios) and Ellen Pallant (Caligari at Underbelly, Read The Room at Golden Goose Theatre). Ray met the show’s director, Hanna Berrigan on a previous project and approached her to direct the play.

About the project Berrigan says ‘working with these six women has been extremely enjoyable. I’ve been blown away by their talent, sensitivity and dedication. Sarah’s writing, with its twists and turns, boldness and subtlety, is a gift for a director.’
